Screw the feet in, squeeze the butt, keep tension in the hips, create external rotation of the hip. All these cues are well meaning efforts to help beginner and intermediate lifters lift more efficiently, reduce chance of injury, and lift heavier weights.
But the problem is that unless you feel what this is like, it’s hard to figure it out. Sometimes the cues don’t help. Sometimes you need something to help you feel what it’s like to do it right.
That’s what today’s drill is. It’s a simple tool you can do before and after training to help you cue yourself to “stay tight” in the squat.
